As a result of the Challenge in Changing Times capital campaign,
grants are awarded annually to parishes within the Diocese of Columbus from six
specific endowments: Capital for Parishes, Catholic Elementary School Assistance,
Evangelization and Care for the Poor, and Assistance to Seniors. The grants are determined
by the Distribution Committee, comprised of one representative from each of the
geographic vicariates in the diocese and four members of the clergy.
Grants from the remaining two endowments: Long Term Health Care Needs for Priests
and Lay Ministry, Deacon and Seminarian Training are decided by the bishop and
his advisors.
Funding is available in the Spring from the following endowments: Capital for
Parishes, which provides for the repair and maintenance projects on existing
parish structures, excluding school buildings; Elementary School Assistance, which
provides for operational expenses and capital repairs of the school buildings;
Evangelization and Care for the Poor, which provides funds for parish programs
that enrich communities through evangelization that directly welcome non-Catholics
and non-practicing Catholics back to the Church, as well as parish programs that
focus on ministering to the needs of the poor in their immediate communities;
Assistance to Seniors, which provides funds for parish programs that benefit
senior citizens.
Funding is available only in the Winter from the Capital for Parishes endowment,
due to an anonymous gift to the Challenge in Changing Times campaign from a
national foundation. The final year for this special opportunity for additional
funding is 2004.
Specific criteria is explained in the
guidelines and applications.
